Agile Leadership Podcast #3
Welcome to Agile CxO.org and our Agile Leadership Podcast. Today’s guest is Denis Goulet, Chief Information Officer from New Hampshire, and an Agile state government leader.
“I think corporations learned a long time ago that in some way you want to fail fast, whether it’s Agile or not. But in state government you continually hear stories of very large projects that go a number of years spending millions and millions of dollars, and then falling over completely. Well, you didn’t know? How is it that nobody knew that this wasn’t doing well?
“To me, that’s the number one case for an Agile state government. You get the transparency continuously throughout the project. If you’re sitting in any of my meetings with the business folks, one of the things I insist on is transparency, regardless what the methodology is. In other words, if things aren’t good, it needs to be vetted, particularly working in state government. It’s what our citizens expect of us.
“They give us money to do stuff and they expect us to manage that money well. I think, if I’m talking to the Legislature, I’ll tell them that an iterative approach is more likely to deliver that value we promised the citizens for the amount of money that the citizens are willing to give us through the Legislature.
“To me, that’s a huge business case.”
